PADI Women’s Dive Day Brings Communities Together for Global Celebration

PADI® Dive Centers, Resorts, Professionals and Divers around the world took part in the seventh consecutive PADI Women’s Dive Day event on Saturday, 17 July 2021.

From beach clean-ups to sunset yoga sessions and local guided dives, the diving community came together for the global celebration that brought everyone together to create balance between humanity and the ocean.

Since the inception of PADI Women’s Dive Day, events around the events around the globe have addressed ties between diversity, inclusion and environmentalism – with this year’s event scaled accordingly to the state of the COVID-19 pandemic. Around the word, the diving community showed their continued commitment to turn their passion into purpose for the ocean and chose to be part of the solution.

Here are just a few of the PADI members whose events invited local PADI Torchbearers to celebrate the sport of diving, with opportunities to seek adventure for all levels of divers.

1. Meridian Adventure Dive Resort

This PADI 5 Star Dive Center in Raja Ampat partnered with Papua Design to join forces for a day of community empowerment. They brought their group of passionate snorkelers and divers out to the Coral Triangle to learn how to identify the local marine species and ways in which they can help protect them.

“With few tourists in Raja Ampat it has been great to be part of a community program that supports one another and see the abundance of fish life roaming our colorful reefs. We were excited to share this with our local ladies and look forward to doing the same with the rest of the world,” says Sean Galleymore, Owner of Meridian Adventure Dive Resort.

2. Divetech Grand Cayman

Continuing the tradition of paying it forward every PADI Women’s Dive Day, this PADI 5 Star Dive Resort celebrated the day through a charity fundraiser, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Cayman Islands Breast Cancer Foundation. Their goal was to dive one second for each person diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020—totaling 639 hours below the surface.

“As well as celebrating women in diving and raising money for the Cayman Islands Breast Cancer Foundation, we wanted to send a message to all divers internationally that we are still here, we are waiting for the borders to re-open and to welcome dive tourism back again,” says Serena Evans, owner of Divetech Grand Cayman.

3. TSK Zürich

Wanting to inspire the next generation is a key mission for this PADI 5 Star Dive Center and they did just that this PADI Women’s Dive Day! Celebrating the ability to plan an event once again, the TSK “Tschiggi Diving” (Ladies Only) Scuba Girls partnered with ProJuventute—the largest Swiss youth foundation—and invited those aged 8-16 to participate in a free snorkeling or Try a Dive in their pool.

“We wanted to give hope and show the diving community is still active, growing and here to distribute joy. For us, this is a chance to give back to the community and inspire the next generation about the underwater world and diving,” says Andre Fahrni, owner of TSK Zürich.

4. Dive Team

This PADI 5 Star Career Development Center in Sweden is using their Women’s Dive Day event to allow divers to find new dive buddies! This year they hit the local Fjords for the celebratory dive, with this being the first time many of the participants had ever explored the waters in their own backyard.

“Women’s Day is about the diversity of divers and what better way to celebrate than exploring the diversity of our own local waters,” says Malin Tiger Dahlström, PADI Course Director of Dive Team.

This year’s event was the first time PADI Dive Centers, Resorts and Professionals could list their Women’s Dive Day activities on the new PADI Conservation Activities Locator. Members will be able to continue listing their conservation events on the locator at any point throughout year, so that divers will be able to easily find local conservation events to participate in, which will be further amplified by PADI Marketing.

The collective effort of the 2021 PADI Women’s Dive Day event has helped to create balance between humanity and the ocean and exemplified what it means to be a PADI Torchbearer – passing the torch and passion for the ocean to your local community and beyond.
