In the interest of providing clarity and maintaining transparency, RSTC US is issuing the following response regarding recent public statements.
SSI’s information was removed from the RSTC US Council page because of their suspension. This action was taken without a separate public announcement by RSTC US and simply to comply with our established procedures.
As a point of clarification, ISO standards and WRSTC standards serve different purposes and should not be considered interchangeable. WRSTC member organizations are expected to uphold WRSTC training standards globally, and WRSTC Councils are responsible for supporting and overseeing adherence to those standards. WRSTC Councils do not administer or enforce ISO certification requirements.
Additionally, ISO certification is voluntary and is not a requirement for WRSTC membership. Many WRSTC members also pursue ISO certification and maintain compliance with both frameworks, often meeting or exceeding applicable requirements.
As acknowledged in SSI’s statement, RSTC US has worked collaboratively with SSI regarding standards alignment and remains committed to constructive engagement moving forward. RSTC US values broad participation within the Council and believes that diverse perspectives and contributions strengthen the organization and the industry as a whole.
At the same time, all member organizations—regardless of tenure or historical role—share an ongoing responsibility to maintain compliance with established WRSTC standards and contribute positively to the Council’s mission.
The mission of WRSTC is to establish and maintain minimum training standards for recreational diving. RSTC US remains committed to that mission and to supporting accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement across its membership.
