Are You Ready for PADI Club Trivia Night?

PADI Club is always looking for ways to connect with, inform and entertain you, our Pro Members. The next few months of virtual events will provide fun opportunities for you to engage more with Club and get something out of it, too. Keep reading for more information on Club’s upcoming Trivia Night, Speaker Series and some fun, new benefits they have recently added.

Trivia Night

On 4 January 2024, PADI Club will host their first-ever Trivia Night. Compete against fellow PADI Pros, Club members and ocean enthusiasts to see who has the most well-rounded ocean knowledge – topics will range from marine biology, geography, scuba diving history and more. You won’t want to miss guest drop-ins and the huge prizes from Garmin, Divers Alert Network and other scuba-related brands. Register through Eventbrite in the link below, then join live on GoToWebinar on 4 January 2024 at 5pm PT to take part in the fun.

The quiz itself will be hosted on Slido, so save this link to compete: https://app.sli.do/event/9Cq3y9phmSmEtcPY6daG6H

Speaker Series

If you have not attended one of Club’s recent Speaker Series events, you are missing out. We have had some amazing guests and conversations. Through a partnership with the International Ocean Film Festival, we’ve shown films from inspiring and talented filmmakers, and audiences have gained unique insight into some of the most compelling and inspiring work being done on behalf of our oceans.

After one recent Speaker Series event, Hannah Dalthorp, a PADI Club member, said, “I always enjoy hearing about the various conservation efforts happening around the world in different communities. There is so much important work being done, and I think it’s really special to have the opportunity to hear directly from those individuals that are on the frontlines trying to protect and conserve our oceans and trying to educate others.”

What you may have missed:

Seagrass for Sea Change – The shallow waters off Australia’s shores once supported vast meadows of seagrasses that can be as critical to biodiversity as any coral reef or rainforest, but have been dangerously degraded by centuries of industrialization. Today, marine biologist Adriana Verges is teaming up with local Aboriginal communities to replant seagrass meadows around Sydney—and help protect an endangered seahorse in the process. Her work is wonderfully documented in the film Seagrass for Sea Change, and Club members were invited to watch the 12-minute short film and join the conversation with Dr. Verges, Gamay ranger Bryce Liddell and filmmaker Whitney Beer-Kerr.

Brent Durand – An avid California scuba diver, surfer, writer, photographer, media producer, and marketer, Brent has been diving since 1997 and working full time in the dive and underwater imaging industries since early 2013. His photography is widely published in print and advertising worldwide. He works as Brand Evangelist at SCUBAPRO and writes monthly for Scuba Diving magazine. Brent’s passion is creating unique images that convey raw ocean wilderness, most often while diving the rugged Northern California coast.

Natasha Marosi & Yannis Papastamatiou – This past summer, PADI AWARE® launched the funding phase of their Shark and Ray Census, a citizen science initiative aimed at collecting critical data to help protect our cartilaginous friends in waters all over the world. PADI Club hosted Natasha Marosi, Conservation Director for Beqa Adventure Divers and Founder of My Fiji Shark, and Yannis Papastamatiou, PhD, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at the Institute of Environment at Florida International University to talk about these misunderstood animals and their extraordinary impact on marine ecosystems.
